Art Johns is Tlingit Indian. Since the age of 9, Art went out with his father, Johnnie Johns who operated a big game guiding business for 50 years. Art has walked, rode, boated, saw and touched the land in South Yukon and at 55 is recognized as one of the best native guides.
After his father sold their hunting outfit in 1967, and after working for a new owner for a few years, Art tried the 9 to 5 life in the city. His love for being out on the land sent him back to a lifestyle more comfortable to him in 1979.
In 1984, Art decided to start his own non-hunting outfit: Spirit Lake Trail Rides and Expeditions.
SLTR&E is a great Yukon Experience. On horseback you access many parts of land not reached by any other way.
With Art as your guide you appreciate native skills learned from childhood and taught for generations in native culture. The harmony of people to nature is an experience as right today as it has ever been – it has no ending. It is a feeling of comfort and acceptance. It is a feeling of smallness and unimportance.
The freedom from the weight of responsibility and day to day crises and cares in exchange for the responsibilities of the real priorities of life. There is a real joy in re-uniting man in nature. Being with someone who moves to the beat of the earth is an experience not often available today.
With a lifetime of experience, Art is an excellent horseman and his skills working with horses offers you well cared for and disciplined mounts from which to enjoy the panoramic views of this exciting land.
